Community: Bowie

Description

It’s December of 1939. Gone with the Wind is having its world premiere, and Hitler is invading Poland, but Atlanta's elitist German Jews are much more concerned with who is going to Ballyhoo, the social event of the season.

Event Details

Bowie Community Theatre announces auditions for THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO, by Alfred Uhry.

Especially concerned is the Frietag family. The family gets pulled apart and then mended together with plenty of comedy, romance, and revelations along the way. Events take several unexpected turns as the characters face where they come from and are forced to deal with who they really are.

Directed by Ilene Chalmers.

Cast of Characters:

Adolph Freitag – businessman, late 40’s
Boo Levy – his sister, a few years older
Reba Freitag – his sister-in-law, mid-40’s
Lala Levy – Boo’s daughter, 20’s
Sunny Freitag – Reba’s daughter, 20’s
Joe Farkas – Adolph’s business assistant, 20’s
Peachy Weil – a visitor from Lake Charles, 20’s

Auditions will be cold readings from the script. Please come prepared to use a southern accent (regionally Georgia) for all characters except Joe, who speaks in a New York accent.

Auditions will be held from 7:00 – 9:00 pm on July 15 and 16 at The Bowie Playhouse, 16500 White Marsh Park Drive, Bowie, MD 20715. If needed, callbacks will be held at the director’s rehearsal space in Millersville, MD. Rehearsals will be held in Millersville, MD. Performances will run from October 11 - 27, 2019.
