Chef Sammy Diaz of Chefs de Borinquen will be here serving delicious tacos. All proceeds from the food will go right back to his non-profit supporting the relief efforts of our brother and sisters in Puerto Rico.
ABOUT CHEFS DE BORINQUEN --->
Chefs De Borinquen is a nonprofit organization that was established in 2018 in Washington D.C. in the aftermath of hurricane Maria. Chefs De Borinquen consists of culinary
professionals dedicated to building communities, and fighting hunger by providing humanitarian assistance to those in dire need. Up to date, they have cooked warm meals for the people on the island, attended speaker events at the Boys and Girls Club, and are working with local farmers to improve the food and agriculture current conditions.
In 2018 Chefs De Borinquen was recognized by the office of the DC Mayor on Latino Affairs (MOLA) for their emergency and recovery relief efforts. Since Hurricane Maria, Chefs De Borinquen has visited the island three times and has been able to reach over 12,000 people collectively through their relief initiatives. Their initiative/programs consist of hurricane relief, CDB Escuela and El nuevo renacer de Puerto Rico and The rebirth of Puerto RIco.
Founded on the principles to aid those in need, the Hurricane relief initiative has been an ongoing project.
On their first trip to the island after hurricane Maria hit, Chefs De
Borinquen visited and distributed warm meals to people living in the most devastated areas. In just three days, they successfully fed 3,000 people.
The CDB Escuela initiative, focuses on
establishing a partnership with food and nutrition fixated schools. As of September 2018, Chefs De Borinquen has been partnered up with D.C Bilingual public charter school. The partnership
allows for assistance with school lunch preparation, training of the school staff, teaching the youth about different types of cuisines, recipe development, and the implementation of healthy and nutritious meals for the youth.
El Nuevo Renacer De Puerto Rico initiative, consists of agriculture development, food distribution and the rebuilding farming communities. In 2018, Chefs De Borinquen partnered up with Hacienda Mireria and Freddy & Nene’s Farm to distribu
