This concert, performed by acclaimed harpsichordist Colin Booth, is a delightful exploration of a musical form called the Ground. Grounds were immensely popular in the 17th century and are a set of variations built around a simple repeated base line which may comprise just a few notes. Composers today continue to use this musical form. This concert, though, presents the lovely & diverse melodies of English 17th century Grounds with works by William Byrd, William Inglot, Orlando Gibbons, Henry Purcell, John Blow & William Croft. A meet-the-artist gathering follows the concert where complimentary beverages will be served.
