Description

Join UMD's chapter of 17 for Peace and Justice as they host the FIRST film screening of "Right to Harm" in the state of Maryland

Event Details

Through the riveting stories of five rural communities, RIGHT TO HARM exposes the devastating public health impact factory farming has on many disadvantaged citizens throughout the United States. Filmed across the country, the documentary chronicles the failures of state agencies to regulate industrial animal agriculture. Known formally as Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations – or CAFOs – these facilities produce millions of gallons of untreated waste that destroys the quality of life for nearby neighbors. Fed up with the lack of regulation, these disenfranchised citizens band together to demand justice from their legislators.

17 for Peace and Justice is a student led organization at the University of Maryland, College park that works to promote environmental justice on campus and within the community. To help educate students and community members about the social, environmental and ethical impacts of factory farming 17 for Peace and Justice has arranged a FREE screening of "Right to Harm" followed by a panel session. Panelist will include animal rights activists, environmental justice advocates, the film makers and farmers. This is event is open to the public and to UMD students.

Light refreshments will be served from 4:30 pm until 5:30 pm and the film screening will start promptly at 5:45 pm.
