Dr. Jean C. McSweeney will present “Matters of the Heart: A Research Journey Uncovering Signs of Heart Disease in Women.” Dr. McSweeney will discuss her program of research that focuses on the symptoms of heart disease in women.

Jean C. McSweeney, RN, PhD, FAHA, FAAN is a professor and Associate Dean for Research at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas. Dr. McSweeney is a research pioneer in the field of women’s cardiovascular disease, publishing the first study that described women’s symptoms. Her studies about women’s prodromal and acute symptoms of heart disease across ethnic groups have received international media coverage. She served as lead author on the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Scientific Statement on Ischemic Heart Disease in Women. Dr. McSweeney is the recipient of numerous awards, including the AHA’s Katharine A. Lembright Award.
She received her BSN from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, master’s from the University of Texas at Arlington, and PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. She has served on the National Advisory Council for Nursing Research and the National Institutes of Health Council of Councils. She is a Fellow in the AHA and the American Academy of Nursing.
